medication disposalFriday, April 21, 2017 (Siloam Springs, Ark.) The Siloam Springs Police Department will participate in the National Take Back Initiative sponsored by the US Drug Enforcement Administration on Saturday, April 29 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Police Department will have a booth at the Siloam Springs Dogwood Festival where the public can drop off unwanted medications. The public can also bring their unwanted or unused prescription drugs and medications to the drop box located in the lobby of the Siloam Springs Police Department year-round. No sharps or syringes will be accepted.

The purpose of the Take Back program is to curb addiction and prevent medication from being abused, accidentally ingested, being used in a crime, causing an overdose, causing a traffic accident, or polluting Arkansas waterways.

• More than one half of teens (56%) report that it’s easy to get prescription drugs from their parent’s medicine cabinet.
• One in four teens report they have abused or misused prescription or over the counter drugs.
• Medicines that are flushed or poured down the drain can end up polluting our waters, impacting aquatic species, and contaminating our food and water supplies
• Most abusers of medicines, including teens, get the drugs from a friend or relative – not from a drug dealer. A safe medicine take-back program gets potentially dangerous leftover drugs out of our homes

The Siloam Springs Police Department is located at 100 Highway 412 West in Siloam Springs.
